Judge Karen Khalil
17th District Court, Redford Township

Judge Khalil is the founder of the Redford Commission on Youth and Families, formerly known as the Commission on Children’s Issues. Having presided over the 17th District Court since 1993, including 16 years as Chief Judge, Judge Khalil has developed a reputation for fair, but firm decisions. As well as her commitment to Redford Township families, Judge Khalil is also a prominent supporter of our military veterans, becoming one of the first judges in Michigan to operate a successful Veterans Treatment Court. Judge Khalil began her legal career as legal counsel for both Ford Motor Company and Chrysler. Judge Khalil received her Bachelor of Arts from Albion College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit School of Law. Judge Khalil serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals, as well as being a leader in the Wayne County Specialty Court Cooperative, active in the Michigan District Judges Association, Wayne County District Court Association, and a guest lecturer at Albion College, Western Michigan University, University of Michigan – Dearborn, and the Michigan Judicial Institute.

Brian Spitsbergen
Grow Works, Inc.

Brian Spitsbergen serves as the Director of Community Relations for Grow Works, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting youth within Wayne County, as well as over 20 years of experience as a Director of Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Treatment for Adolescents & Adults.  Brian holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling from University of Detroit Mercy and is currently completing his dissertation research in pursuit of a doctorate from Oakland University.

John Buck
Michigan Attorney General's Office

John Buck served the residents of Redford Township as a member of the Redford Township Police Department for 35 years, retiring as Chief of Police.  Currently employed as a Supervisory Special Agent with the Michigan Attorney General and as Adjunct Faculty at Schoolcraft College, John continues his community involvement as President of the Redford Goodfellows, Chairman of the Redford Police and Fire Pension Board, and membership in the Redford Rotary Club and Boys & Girls of Southeast Michigan.  John received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State University and has earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Candice Towers, Treasurer

Candice Towers has 11 years of experience in the banking industry, currently positioned as the Branch Manager of the Community Choice Credit Union’s Redford Member Center.   Candice has rooted herself in the Redford Township community, joining the Redford Jaycees and recently being elected to the Board of Directors of the Redford Township Chamber of Commerce.  Candice holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Tennessee State University and is pursing her Master of Business Administration degree from Davenport University.

Brian Galdes
South Redford School District

Brian Galdes graduated from Thurston High School and immediately decided that he wanted to give back to his hometown.  With over 24 years of educational experience, Brian has served as a teacher at Jane Addams Elementary, Principal of Fisher Elementary, and is now entering his 6th year as Superintendent of South Redford Schools.  Brian is a Past President of the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association and the recipient of the Outstanding Practicing Principal for the State of Michigan and the National Distinguished Principal Award.  Brian holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.

Cummings, McLorey, Davis & Acho, PLC

Jeffrey R. Clark, Esq. has been a partner with Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho since 1993. With over 30 years of legal experience, Mr. Clark currently serves as legal counselor for Redford Township, as well as being named a frequent court appointed mediator and case evaluator.  Mr. Clark holds memberships in the State Bar Association, Metropolitan Detroit Bar Association, Redford Township Chamber of Commerce, and the Redford Township Police and Fire Pension Board.  Mr. Clark received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Law School.

Redford Township Library Director

Garrett Hungerford serves as the Director of the Redford Township District Library and has over 16 years of experience in various aspects of library service.  Garrett holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.  He is a member of the American Library Association, Michigan Librarian Association and an active participant within the local Library Network Cooperative which serves 75 libraries in southeast Michigan.

Molly Williams, Secretary
George Matick Chevrolet

Molly currently serves as the Secretary for the Redford Commission on Youth and Families.  Passionate in her desire to help others, Molly is also the Treasurer for the Veteran’s Outreach Project of Southeast Michigan, Treasurer for her local Swim Club, a Board Member of the PTA, and recently completed a term as Treasurer for her sorority, Phi Mu Fraternity. George Matick Chevrolet has been named Chevrolet Dealer of the Year for the past 2 years and presented the Leadership in Sustainability Award in 2015 with Molly at the helm as their General Manager.  Molly holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Dr. Serena Shivers
Redford Union Schools

Dr. Serena Shivers is an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University with over 23 years in the education field, serving in multiple roles including teacher, principal, Director of Education, Assistant Superintendent, and her current role as Superintendent of Redford Union Schools.  Dr. Shivers brings an expertise of cultural proficiency, adolescent literacy, writing, mathematics, and school leadership to Redford Township, and a back ground in A.L.I.C.E., a program designed to teach staff how to respond in an active shooter situation.  Dr. Shivers holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision, as well as her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from Indiana University.

Judge Charlotte Wirth
17th District Court, Redford Township

Judge Wirth joined the Redford Commission on Youth and Families in 1999, the same year she took the bench as a 17th District Court Judge.  Beginning her legal career in 1979 by becoming an attorney and a member of the Michigan State Bar Association, Judge Wirth has extended her professional network to include memberships in the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Suburban Bar Association, Livonia Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers of Michigan, as well as serving as a Past President of the Wayne County District Judges Association.  Judge Wirth is also active in her community with current and past involvement in the Redford District Library Commission, Block Grant Commission, South Redford Mental Health and Bullying Committees, and several other Redford Union Schools and church programs.
